St. David's Day - 2008 |
Cardiff v Munster |
St
David’s Day at the Blues (Pictures below)
A great Day was to be had by the Llandaff
North Minis at Cardiff Blues Magners League Game, Where it was Clubs Day
at the Arms Park. No St David’s day would be complete with out a
Leek…..9ft that is, (Bernie grew it?) complete with Llandaff North
RFC and a message for mothers day. We all met at the club, for a drink
and a chat, and then caught the train to town, the conductor tried to
charge us for the leek (Definitely English!) got in to central where it
was heaving. Lots of smiles from passers by and a couple of photo ops
(with the leek) English tourist I think, they only thought Max Boyce could
grow one this big (They ain’t met Bernie). (Message
from Chairman - Wots all this about the English then)
We all met on Westgate Street. It was at this point Bernie seem to magically
disappear.
Andy shouted “There she Goes!”(Doing his Captain Ahab impression).
Amidst the shouts from passers by “Oi Butt, Love the Leek!”
By this time the boys were all jumping up and down, not with excitement
but in need of a Karsi!
We trooped them in to the City Arms and flooded the pub with Black and
Amber (Really). It was then back out onto Westgate street and into the
Arms Park.
The Welsh Guards stopped for a quick Photo, Durr you should have seen
the mums Swooning, (Sorry Clawing, had to drag them away).
The Cardiff Blues where led out by our very own Under 11’s Jack
BT. Who had won a competition with the Blues (Well done Jack, Done us
all proud) and his DAD, Glenn who stood out in his PINK Llandaff North
Jersey and could be spotted from all four corners of the ground, reached
40 on this weekend and could not have been more proud. All in high spirits
at the kick off at the prospect of a blues win. Munster score, (let’s
just get to Half time).
At Half time the Under 10’s from every club had a race up the pitch
followed by their mascot; Bernie told Big Simon he would be running with
the 10’s. I can’t write the reply, only to say that he and
Chrissie were nice, warm and quenched by this time. The 10’s went
bombing up the field to the cheer of the crowds, the colours of all the
clubs were represented bringing smiles and shouts to all. As the drizzle
set in so did the cold, the blues limped toward the final whistle, but
as we entered injury time, That was when it happened, the St David’s
day miracle. Right there at the Arms Park!
We were told that Rush had told the boys “We’ve gorra win
this one for the Kids, They turned up to cheer us on with they’re
Daffs, Leeks and Flags! We Can’t let them down Now”
And with this, a truly inspirational attack was mounted against the players
of Munster as the Blues moved into the Visitors 22. The tannoy announced
“Please could you not run on the Pitch” as Roberts and Selley
crossed the line to score. 23-22. The Crowd was going wild as Ben Blair
stepped up to hammer in the final nail in this St David’s day Game.
The whistle blew as the ball went through the uprights 25-22 and a flood
of colour swept across the field as thousands of youngsters ran on to
congratulate the hero’s in the damp floodlit night. Young painted
Blues faces glistened as the drizzle came down, all smiling and shouting.
It took us twenty minutes to drag them all off the field. Three under
10’s from The Bwl were trying to carry a Steward off with them they
said, “Don’t got one of these at the Club, Sound init”.
And so we made our way back to the Station, tired wet and happy the boy
asked me “how did that happen dad?”
I told him “It’s a magical time when you’re Welsh on
St David’s Day!”
(Message from
Chairman - Well done Mums, Dads and The North Boys)
